The Secretary General of the Higher Council for the Environment meets the Governor of South Kordofan
The Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Mona Ali Mohamed Ahmed meet the designated governor of South Kordofan, Musa Jabr Mahmoud, in her office today.
The meeting discussed the environmental challenges and problems from which that the state suffers and the ways to address them, especially the negative effects of traditional mining with mercury on human health and the environment.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General stressed the immediate cessation of the use of the banned substance mercury and the use of environmentally friendly alternatives in order to preserve human health, soil, agriculture, animals and groundwater.
She called for promulgation of state law to protect the environment and preserve its components. She promised to expand the umbrella of environmental projects implemented in the state in the most vulnerable areas to improve the living standards of local communities and to increase their resilience to address climate changes.
He refers to the state’s need for optimum utilization of these resources in order to benefit the people of the state and support the national economy. He expressed his hope to increase the contribution of the Higher Council for the Environment in supporting the environmental activities in the state
On his part, the governor of South Kordofan state confirmed his state enthusiasm for the environment, at the forefront of which is the establishment of a state council for the environment and the strengthening of partnerships with interested parties. He confirmed that his state is rich in agricultural lands, livestock and productive crops, as well as gold.
