The Environment Council uses agricultural research to support small farmers and herders
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Resources and the Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC) , today. The memorandum of understanding looks for cooperation in providing technical support and guidance to small farmers and herders in the localities in the White Nile State, where Climate Change Adaptation Project is operating. It was signed by Dr. Mona Ali Mohamed Ahmed, Director General of the Council and Professor Abdel Moneim Taha from ARC.The project’s country director, Ibrahim Balila, announces that the memorandum of understanding allows ARC to supervise farmers’ schools directly through field surveys, identifying target villages, technical specifications for demonstration farms, organizing farmers, purchasing improved and drought-resistant varieties seeds, using modern agricultural technologies, and post-harvest treatments for farmers and shepherds in coordination with the technology transfer and extension department in the state for the purpose of increasing productivity and applying an ecosystem approach.
