Sudan participates in the fourth meeting on the preparation of the global framework for biodiversity in Nairobi
Sudan is currently participating in the Fourth meeting, during the period from June 21 to 26, in Nairobi on preparing the global framework for biodiversity beyond 2020 to 2030.
From the meeting headquarters, Dr. Khitma Al Awad Mohamed Representative of Sudan and director of the General Department for the Sustainability of Resources and Preserving the Environmental equilibrium at the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources, said that the meeting is considered the last before the Fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, to be held in December 2022 in Canada, to approve the framework according to which countries should update or prepare their strategies and plans and its national work in accordance with the global framework.
She pointed out that the global framework for biodiversity contains 4 targets and 21 goals that are discussed together, including solutions to the challenges facing biodiversity such as climate change, pollution, invasive species, the integrity of ecosystems, the provision of funding from all resources, capacity building, technology transfer, and the involvement of all stakeholders, women and youth.
She added that the framework also includes the vision until the year 2050 to live in harmony with nature and contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals by 2030.
She notes the approval of a project to support developing countries, including Sudan. Sudan will receive an amount of 300,000 dollars to carry out prior policy and information audit activities and formation of committees in preparation for updating the national biodiversity strategy and action plan through the United Nations Environment Office and the United Nations Development Program and another project that will come after the approval of the global framework to help prepare and update national strategies and plans
