Biodiversity Monitoring Workshop Reviews the Best Models and Technologies
Dr. Al-Khatma Al-Awad Muhammad, Director of the General Department for Sustainability of Resources confirmed the importance of biodiversity and its and its appreciable contribution to food security and livelihoodpoverty reduction, human health, environmental services and economic development.
In the opening ceremony of the biodiversity a monitoring and surveillance workshop organized by the council today in the context of building environmental capacities, she said that Sudan is rich in genetic resources and ecosystems that play an important role in enriching biodiversity and associated traditional knowledge. Describing the scope of the workshop as the first of its kind in Sudan and an initiative to implement the global strategy for the conservation of biodiversity beyond 2020, expressing her hope that the partners will benefit from the objective of the workshop and bring it to reality.
On his part, the national expert, Dr. Ahmed Ali Hasab al-Karim explained that the workshop aim is to present the concepts of ecology, what biodiversity is, their benefit, services, threats to its existence, global and local efforts to preserve it. In addition, to address the importance of information and the determinants of its availability in Sudan, and to identifyg the best models and modern technologies used in the process of monitoring and controlling biodiversity and general guidelines for how to design monitoring programs
