A partner program between the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources and Agricultural Research Corporation to establish women’s farms in coping with climate change
Today, the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources (HCNER) ratify a contract with the Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC). According to this contract ARC will implement twenty women’s farms in the States where the project Building Resilience in the face of Climate Change within Traditional Rain fed Agricultural and Pastoral Systems is active. The contract was signed by Dr Mona Ali Mohamed Ahmed the Secretary General of HCNER and Professor Abdel Moneim Taha, General Director of ARC.
Dr Mona emphasized the farmer’s contribution in providing livelihood alternatives, increasing income and contribution in food security, and she granted the importance of awareness and guidance aspect of the improved varieties, the adoption of agricultural technical packages, and training of beneficiaries, so as to maximize the benefit.
On his part, the country director of the Building Resilience Project, Professor Faisal Ahmed Al-Hajj, explained that the women’s farm project is one of the agricultural activities component of the project, through which heat and drought tolerant varieties are provided, technologies applied adapted to climate changes is applied and modern irrigation systems is followed.
