Examining the role of the private sector in the domain of the environment.
The Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources, in partnership with Hajjar Group, organized a workshop on the role of the private sector in environmental work and investment opportunities in the green economy. In this workshop, the expert on economics and environmental, Professor Rashid Makki Hassan, presented a paper on the role of the private sector. He points out to the importance of dialogue with the private sector due to its importance in the environmental domain and its contribution to all consumer activities and addressing the environmental challenges and problems, such as pollution, drought, climate change, incursion into the ecosystem over use and excessive use of mercury in traditional mining.
He enumerated the investment opportunities in the field of environment, such as recycling of solid and electronic waste, construction waste, mercury alternatives, environmentally friendly energy, agricultural pesticides and eco-tourism to preserve and promote the environment and make optimal use of its resources. He requests the State to encourage investors and transparency in dealing and setting appropriate policies.
On his part, Engineer Qusai Awad Ahmed discusses the benefits of the transition towards a green economy. He notes the steady increase in the energy sector and its negative repercussions, and he demanded a change in the method of consumption. He speaks about the importance of writing projects in climate change and submitting them to funding from the donor funds.
Raed Al-Masry reviewed Hajjar’s experience in the domain of renewable energies, clean technology and environmentally friendly products. He praised the role of the Higher Council for the Environment in coordinating and promoting environmental affairs. He called on the state to provide facilities in the field of using solar energy to make the most of the available possibilities
