The Secretary-General of the Environment Council calls on the Sudanese to be responsible and patriotic in environmental issue

The Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Mona Ali Mohamed Ahmed, renewed her congratulations to the Sudanese people on the country’s celebrations of the World Environment Day and stressed the need to show responsibility and a spirit of patriotism in preserving the environment and natural resources.

The message was when She address today the celebration organized by the Council in the honor of the celebration under the slogan “We only own one land” in the presence of a number of ministers, federal ministries, the Secretary-General of the Environment Council in the state of Khartoum and representatives of the relevant authorities in the governmental, private, academic and research sectors, civil society organizations and the media. She called for embodying the celebration slogan, which highlights the importance of preserving the earth as essential resource for life and a source for the requirements of living and survival with the existence of the threats and challenges such as, pollution, climate change and loss of biodiversity. She addressed the problems that Sudan suffers from and threatens its environment and the future of its generations as a result of pollution from irresponsible industrial activities and mining using prohibited chemicals. She talks also about the negative repercussions of the Renaissance Dam, from which Sudan loses a lot of flood lands and it threatens its aquatic biodiversity. She revealed the council’s tendency to take measures and procedures to address environmental violations and preserve natural resources in cooperation with partners.

On his part, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Hashem Abu Zeid affirmed his ministry’s keenness and commitment to environmental standards and requirements in all projects of the aviation, land, river and marine transport sector, and coordination with the Supreme Council for the Environment for a sound and healthy environment. In addition to the ceremonial speeches, dramatic paragraphs, environmental competitions, murals were presented, distribution of seedlings, and honoring the cooperating parties.
