Workshop on environmental and social requirements in Gadaref
Al-Mutawakil Hotel in Gadaref hosted the training workshop on environmental and social requirements, from June 30 to July 2, 2022. The workshop was implemented by the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources in cooperation with the Rural Livelihoods Adaption to Climate Change in the Horn of Africa project. Eng. Omar Ahmed Mohamed, Director General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in Gadaref State, assured the importance of the workshop in training the ministry’s staff and other relevant bodies, stressing interest in the workshop’s outputs and project activities. Khaled Hashem, the project coordinator in the State, referred to the project’s objectives in achieving food security and providing livelihoods for rural communities of small farmers and herders by adopting adaptation measures in agriculture, water harvesting programs and planting shelter belts, in addition to distributing bags to reduce post-harvest losses. He indicates that the project targets the villages of Qadambiyah, Al-Jabal, Tarfa, Abu Kashma and Al-Amal.
While Dr. Ibrahim Ali, a specialist in environmental and social requirements in the project, explained that the workshop aims to find a common conceptual framework for the requirements of protection and environmental guarantees, and to establish a concept and vision for the sustainability of projects, in addition to identifying the national and international frameworks that govern the environment.
