A Model for Environmental Action in Sudan

The delegation of the project strengthen capacities in the field of environment at the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources held a consultative meeting today with the leaders of environmental work in the Red Sea state. During the meeting they discussed the model of environmental work in the states of Sudan. The model was prepared by the project through visits that included all states of Sudan, during the visit the project group met with the leaders and professionals from relevant institutions and voluntary associations.

Professor Migdam Sheikh Abdul Ghani, National Director of the Capacity Building Project, state that the meeting reviewed the components of the model, the most important environmental issues, institutional work, the legislative situation, and environmental information and data in the state. He said that the meeting concluded about the importance of coordinating environmental work between all concerned institutions at the state and center levels through the State Council for the Environment, and the need to raise the capabilities of workers in the field of environment. Emphasizing those recommendations are taken into account when issuing the final version of the model.

In a related development, Sheikh explained that the visit included; a training course in the field of data centers and environmental information, and training in the field of managing websites and social networking pages for the relevant authorities, in addition, an awareness-raising workshop for media professionals was held in the three eastern states on media handling of environmental issues.
